OBAGI Blue Peel

If you want healthier, smoother looking skin, now there's a way to dramatically improve your complexion, in just a day. It all starts with the OBAGI Blue Peel.

What is a Blue Peel?

The Blue Peel is an in-office procedure designed to significantly improve the appearance and health of your skin. Using a low concentration of the chemical trichloroacetic acid (TCA) mixed with a special blue base to slow penetration, the Blue Peel allows your doctor to monitor the appropriate depth to effectively remove the thin surface layers of aged and damaged skin from the face or other parts of the body. These dead skin cells are replaced by healthier ones, allowing the skin's own clarity and tightness to resurface.Unlike Glycolic Acid and Alpha Hydroxy peels, The Blue Peel uses a slow-acting TCA (trichloroacetic acid) solution applied to the skin to remove dead skin cells and stimulate the production of new skin cells. Since TCA is not absorbed through the skin, there are no internal toxic effects. The slow action of the Blue Peel solution enables your surgeon to control the peel process and its depth. The Blue Peel can even be performed on the neck, chest, hands, back, arms and legs.

Is this treatment right for me?

A Blue Peel can effectively improve a wide variety of skin conditions including fine lines and wrinkles, uneven pigmentation, shallow acne scars, sun-damaged skin and freckling.A Blue Peel is not a substitute for a facelift. It cannot eliminate excessive or lax skin. But, in many cases your Physician may suggest that a Blue Peel be performed in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures.

What should I expect from the treatment?

The Blue Peel is a quick, relatively simple and highly tolerable procedure that in most cases does not require sedation. If your Physician indicates sedation, you will need someone to drive you home.Application of the Blue Peel takes about 20 minutes. Depending on your skin type and the desired results, you will probably require from 1 to 4 coats applied to various areas of skin. Once applied, the Blue Peel produces a separation and peeling of the outer layers of the skin. You will experience a mild burning sensation that lasts two to three minutes. Immediately after the procedure, a bluish tint remains on your skin, which will usually wash off in 12 to 24 hours.

What is the recovery time?

After the procedure, you will experience light swelling, and your skin will begin to peel within 2 to 3 days. This peeling will continue over the next several days and should be healed in an average of 7 to 10 days. Your new skin will be slightly pink. This will gradually fade over the next several weeks. Cosmetics can be applied after about three weeks.Following the Blue Peel, your new skin will be tighter, smoother and slightly lighter in color than it was before your peel. Remember, your new skin will be soft and sensitive. It is important that you avoid any exposure to the sun. Always apply a sunblock of at least SPF-15 twenty minutes before you go outside. The peeling should not disrupt your regular lifestyle for long, although you may want to limit your normal activity.
